Bestselling Discontinued Cars

When a vehicle is discontinued, chances are you'll be able to find it here at Weston Nissan. Drivers in the greater Ft Lauderdale area seek out vehicles that have ended their production runs for a number of reasons. Whether they love the style, build-quality, or some defining feature in it, we know that just because an automaker ceases its production, it doesn't mean that public demand will die down anytime soon.

That's why we find it so fascinating to see what discontinued vehicles keep selling new after they've been shelved. It offers some insight into what the hottest selling used cars near Ft Lauderdale will be down the road, and is just entertaining in general. Care to see for yourself? Keep in mind that these sales numbers might not seem impressive at first, as they account for the remaining inventory that dealerships have at the end of the year and the year that follows as well.

Two automakers that tend to generate demand for their vehicles long after they've driven off into the sunset are Suzuki and Kia. Suzuki tends to generate demand for a wider range of models, where as Kia tends to go out less often, but with a bigger bang when they do.

For instance, in recent years, Suzuki has retired the Forenza, Reno, Verona, and XL7. Some of these vehicles were retired as many as five years ago. Yet in 2010 and 2011, they all sold a combined 365 units.

Then we have Kia. There are only two Kia models that have been discontinued recently, but both continued to generate high demand. First is the Kia Amanti. In 2010, it sold 281 units, while in 2011 it managed to sell eight more. Now, in 2012, it's safe to say that the new stock is dried up. And while it might seem impressive that one discounted model could keep selling like that after its death, it has nothing on the bestselling discontinued model to date: The Kia Borrego.

In the two years since Kia canned Borrego production, it sold 10,264 units. This far surpasses any other model that we've mentioned thus far, and for good reason. The vehicle was only produced for one model year, and in that time it more than proved its worth to drivers. So why was it discontinued? The South Korean automaker simply needed to free up room in its production for other models.
